Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is excessive, uncontrollable sweating. It may occur on the hands, feet, scalp, face, groin or the armpit. This condition occurs in approximately 1% of the population, and may be hereditary.

Hyperhidrosis can occur on its own, due to overactivity of the nervous system, or may be secondary to underlying medical conditions such as hormonal disorders, menopause, obesity, tumours or neurological disorders.

After confirming your medical history and performing a physical examination we will discuss various treatment options available to treat this condition.

Treatment options include:

  • Antiperspirants
  • Dietary changes
  • Oral medications
  • Iontophoresis
  • Botulinum toxin injections
  • Surgery, including endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy or axillary sweat gland excision
